Summary:1,168,009. Dihydroisophorone. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 4 Dec., 1967 [13 Jan., 1967], No. 55078/67. Heading C2C. Dihydroisophorone is purified by treating a mixture comprising at least dihydroisophorone and beta-isophorone to isomerize the betaisophorone substantially completely to alphaisophorone without causing pyrolysis of the remainder of the mixture and distilling the dihydroisophorone from the resultant mixture. The isomerization may be carried out by heating or catalytically. The mixture may be produced by distilling the mixture of dihydroisophorone, alpha- and beta-isophorone and cis- and trans-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol which is obtained by hydrogenating alpha-isophorone.
