Summary:1,165,394. Nitrogen-containing condensation products. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK A.G. 7 Feb., 1967 [8 Feb., 1966], No. 5790/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Water soluble condensates containing a chlosohydrin group are prepared by reacting 1 mole of an alkylene polyamine with from 1 to 1À3 α moles of #Àcaprolactam, α being the number of amino groups in the polyamine. The resultant amino-containing intermediate is then reacted, in aqueous soln. or suspension with 1 to 2.5 moles of epichlorohydrin per mole of basic amino groups in the intermediate until a 15% aq. soln. has a viscosity between 30 and 100 cp. at 20‹ C., the soln. is adjusted to a pH of <6 to terminate the reaction. The first stage of the process may be carried out until no more water is eliminated. After reaction with epichlorohydrin the chlorohydrin group containing condensate may be dehydrochlorinated by reaction with an alkali, e.g. NaOH, to give an epoxy group containing condensate. The polyamine may have the formula in which R is a linear C 2-6 alkylene radical which may be substituted with amino or hydroxy groups, e.g. diethylene triamine.
