Summary:1,148,983. Bearings. MACLELLAN RUBBER Ltd. 28 April, 1967 [5 July, 1966; 2 Sept., 1966], Nos. 30152/66 and 39212/66. Heading F2A. A rectilinear-motion bearing for a bridge, for example, has an upper member 1, Fig. 1, which is movable with a bridge-deck (not shown) and includes a resilient unit comprising a rectangular block of rubber 3 having bonded to its lower face a metal-plate 4, the lower face of which has a sheet 5 of P.T.F.E. adhered thereto; and has a lower member 2 attachable to a bridge-support (not shown) and provided with a stainless-steel plate 6 which engages the sheet 5 of P.T.F.E. of the upper member 1. The plate 4 may be perforated to facilitate bonding and is protected from the weather by projecting portions of the rubber block 3. In modifications, the stainlesssteel plate 6 on the bridge-support is replaced by a sheet of P.T.F.E.; the lower member 2 is provided with a block of rubber; resilient units 20, 21, Fig. 4, are mounted between a V-shaped channel 17 of a bridge-support 16 and a V- shaped protrusion 19 of a bridge-deck 18; a V-shaped protrusion is formed on the lower member 2 and is received in a V-shaped channel in the resilient unit of the upper member 1; and the contacting surfaces of the lower members and the resilient unit are provided with corresponding undulations which ensure that the relative movement is restricted to one longitudinal direction.
