Summary:1,145,427. Dewaxing hydrocarbon oils. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 16 Feb., 1968, No. 7705/68. Heading C5E. Hydrocarbon oils are dewaxed by precipitating the wax in the presence of a polyalkylacrylate of which the average number of carbon atoms in the alkyl side chains is at least 14, followed by separation. The oil may be a lubricating oil such as a residual oil or a waxy raffinate. The precipitation of the wax may be effected by cooling in the presence of a dewaxing solvent, such as a MEK/toluene mixture. Preferably, the polymer is added to the hydrocarbon oil as a solution in the dewaxing solvent. In the examples homopolymers of the following are used: n-hexadecyl acrylate, n-octadecyl acry. late and n-eicosyl acrylate.
