Summary:1,133,270. Cables. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD. 30 Aug., 1967 [2 Sept., 1966], No. 39390/66. Heading H1A. A compressed-gas insulated cable comprises a stranded inner conductor 10 surrounded by and electrically connected to a corrugated metal tube 11, an outer conducting sheath 13 and dielectric spacers 12 which may be directly secured to tube 11 or to a metal electrode 14 in contact with the tube and which have outer electrodes 15 connected to the outer sheath. The spacers which may have metallized inner cylindrical surfaces may be of ceramic material, or may be cast or moulded in situ from synthetic resin, e.g. epoxy filled with glass or silica, or a thermoplastic such as polysulphone. The electrode 15 may be a ring shrunk or soldered in position; the inner surface of electrode 14 may be soldered or brazed to the tube 11 and both electrodes may be of aluminium. The spacers may have apertures to allow the gas, e.g. SF 6 to flow and a low friction material (21) (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) such as conductive nylon or P.T.F.E., may be inset in part of the outer surface of electrode 15. The conductor 10 may be Cu or Al, the tube 11 may be Al or brass and the sheath 13 may be stainless steel with a plastics cover 16.
