Summary:The invention comprises water-insoluble monoazo dyes of formula <FORM:1123108/C4-C5/1> wherein R is the residue of a diazo component, free from acid water-solubilizing groups, of the benzene, diphenyl or naphthalene series or of the heterocyclic series having 5- or 6-membered rings containing nitrogen and/or sulphur atoms, including such rings fused with benzene nuclei and the ring K may be further substituted other than by acid water-solubilizing groups. The dye 1 - (21 - cyano - 41 - nitro - phenylazo)-4-(N - b - cyanoethyl - N - b - phenylethyl - amino)-benzene, described and claimed in Specification 1,068,758 is disclaimed. The dyes are prepared by the usual azo coupling process using N-b -cyanoethyl - N - b - phenylethyl - anilines as coupling components. The dyes may be used to colour cellulose ester, synthetic polyamide, polyacrylonitrile and in particular aromatic polyester fibres in yellow and red to blue shades. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 870,677.
