Summary:Monoclinic crystals of CaSO42H2O (length 20-130m ) for use as a filter aid for pre-coat filters are prepared by reacting CaCl2, CaO, Co(OH)2, or CaCO3 with H2SO4 or a sulphate (e.g. Na2SO4) or by forming an aqueous or H2SO4 suspension of CaSO4. 1/2 H2O at temperatures up to 90 DEG C. and then cooling to 20-25 DEG C. with stirring, preferably in 3 to 6 hours.ALSO:A filter comprises a pre-coat filter layer of monoclinic crystals of calcium sulphate dihydrate, preferably of length 20 to 130 m . The filter aid may be used for rotary drum and plate filters and filter presses.
