Summary:1,104,813. Oxidation installation; contacting solids and gases. MAGYAR ASVANYOLAJ ES FOLDGAZ KISERLETI INTEZET. 2 Aug., 1966 [2 Aug., 1965], No. 34691/66. Headings B1F and B1X. A blowing installation for oxidation processes, e.g. in the manufacture of blown bitumen, comprises two coaxial cylinders 10 and 11 opening into a head portion of larger crosssection than the outer cylinder and containing perforated foam breaker plates 8, gas and material being introduced through nozzles which consist of a material feed pipe 3 surrounding a gas feed pipe 2, a constriction in the material feed pipe being downstream of the outlet of the gas feed pipe. The material being treated takes the path shown by full arrows while the gases and vapours are evacuated through a pipe 7, blowing being continued until the desired quality is reached (determined by sampling through valves 9) whereupon the product is drained through outlet 4. Air may be blown through pipe 6 in a countercurrent direction to counteract foaming. A plurality of feed pipes may be connected to distributing chambers formed in the lower portion of the reactor (Figs. 4 and 7, not shown).
