Summary:1,076,605. Threshold switching circuits. ELLIOT BROTHERS (LONDON) Ltd. May 19, 1965 [May 26, 1964], No. 21817/64. Heading H3T. A monostable multivibrator has a Zener diode 13 in the emitter circuit of the transistor 1 which is normally non-conducting so that an A.C. signal from 9 rectified at 12 cannot cause the multivibrator to change over until it has exceeded a certain threshold level. If the unstable period of the multivibrator is half the periodic time of the input signal, the output will be square waves at the collector (or emitter) of transistor 2. These can be rectified to operate a relay to indicate that the A.C. signal has exceeded a predetermined value. The mark-tospace ratio of the square-wave output will be changed if the input signal changes in frequency or if its amplitude exceeds twice the threshold voltage of transistor 1.
