Summary: | A process for the production of elastic polyurethanes comprises reacting a linear aliphatically saturated or aromatic polyester containing -OH groups, an aliphatically saturated or aromatic diisocyanate and an aliphatically saturated or aromatic chainlengthening agent or cross-linking agent, in which the reaction between the polyester and at least part of the isocyanate, or between the polyester isocyanate obtained in a first stage, and the chain-lengthening agent, is effected in the presence of 5-50% (based on the weight of polyester) of a compound with one or several vinyl and/or allyl groups which polymerizes during the polyaddition reaction in the presence of 1-5% based on the weight of the reaction mixture of an organic peroxide as catalyst. Vinyl and allyl compounds specified are: styrene, acrylonitrile, esters of methacrylic or acrylic acid, divinyl benzene, phthalic acid diallyl ester, cyanuric acid triallyl ester and phosphoric acid triallyl ester. Peroxides specified are: cyclohexanone peroxide, lauroyl peroxide, methylethylketone peroxide and di-t-butyl peroxide. In Example (1) the reaction product of polyethylene adipate and 1,5-naphthalene diisocyanate was mixed with styrene, di-t-butyl peroxide and butylene glycol and heated in a mould. In Example (4) a polyester derived from adipic acid, ethylene glycol and propylene glycol was mixed with 1,5-naphthalene diisocyanate, styrene and triallyl cyanurate containing di-t-butyl peroxide, cooled and butylene glycol added. In Example (5) the polyurethanes were compounded with polyvinyl chloride and pressed to form a plate. |
