Summary:The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:1021522/C2/1> (wherein R1 stands for an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radical and R2 stands for an alkyl or alkenyl radical) and acid addition salts thereof, pharmaceutical preparations containing them, and their preparation by (a) reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:1021522/C2/2> (wherein X stands for a halogen atom) with R1NH2; (b) reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:1021522/C2/3> or a salt thereof, with a compound (which may be generated in situ) of the formula <FORM:1021522/C2/4> or (c) subjecting a compound of the formula <FORM:1021522/C2/5> (wherein R3 stands for a hydrogenolysable radical) to catalytic hydrogenolysis, optionally followed in each case by acid addition salt formation. The preparation of a number of starting materials of Formulae (II), (III) and (V) is described. The compounds of the invention possess b -adrenergic blocking activity and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations (e.g. tablets, capsules, solutions, suspensions, syrups, elixirs and dispersible powders) containing them in association with a diluent or carrier.
