Summary: | 573,936. Asymmetrically-conducting resistances. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., GRACE, B. B., ELLISON, L. J., LEMAN, H. S., LENG, C. W., and BRIDGE, A. S. Feb. 15, 1943, No. 2504. [Class 37] Reverse resistance in a selenium rectifier is increased by electric current passed in the high resistance direction, an individual resistance being connected in series with each rectifier unit under treatment. In the example of apparatus shown, the bases of the discs 14 are pressed firmly into contact with a flat surfaced cooling channel 10 by a series of metal bellows 17 operated by compressed air. Current passes through a connecting apron 20 to the disc and to the return lead constituted by the channel 10. Each apron is connected by a lead 22 with a two-way switch 23 which can put into the circuit one or other of resistances 24, 25 according to the size of the disc. In modifications for discs of smaller size, springs are used to hold the discs against the cooled plate, releasable bv a common operating bar. Specifications 455,773 and 526,482 are referred to. |
