PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head-up display that can follow an eye box using a simple light shield device upon backlighting.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a backlight device 400 for backlighting a display unit 402 of a head-up display 100. The backlight device 400 comprises: at least one light source 404 that radiates a light beam 406; and at least one light shield device 408 that has at least one aperture 410 generating a conic beam 412 of a predetermined width using the light beam 406, and is arrangeable or arranged between the light source 404 and the display unit 402. The light shield device 408 and/or the aperture 410 can be moved in at least one direction in order to change an angle of incidence of the conic beam 412 upon the display unit 402.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
