The invention relates to the field of manufacturing containers (37) by means of thermoforming, and in particular to a mold unit (24) having at least one thermoforming chamber (28) capable of receiving a thermoplastic preform, said thermoforming chamber (28) being defined by an inner surface (54) and an axial opening (62) in the mold unit (24). The mold unit (24) comprises at least one main body (44), at least one movable part (46) at the mold bottom, and at least one retractable member (58). The movable part (46) is located on a side opposite said axial opening (62) and can move, relative to said main body (44), between a closed position against said main body (44) and an open position. In said open position, the movable part (46) is separated from the main body (44) by a lateral opening (48), in a direction opposite the axial opening (62). The at least one retractable member (58) is capable of penetrating through said lateral opening (48) when the movable part of the mold bottom is in the open position, so as to form at least one retractable flange (60) in the thermoforming chamber (28) opposite the axial opening (62). The invention also relates to a thermoforming method and thermoforming equipment using a mold unit (24).
