Gas e.g. vapor, air, oxygen-enriched and recycled flue gases and carbon dioxide, is sprayed into the sputtering zone around the turbulent water according to the flow direction such that the gas is in contact with the turbulent water and forms a liquid-gas spray. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a mechanically-assisted sprayer comprising a combustible liquid injector channel (2) a burner comprising an injector.
