The present invention relates to the methods for guiding a vehicle 10 on a predefined virtual path 20 over the ground 30 relative to at least one overhead line 40 placed high above the ground and consisting of a terminal for the electrical power supply source of the vehicle 10, the vehicle being connected to the overhead line by means of a plug-in connector pole and comprising a means 14 for controlling the movement direction 16 of the vehicle on the ground 30. The method is characterized in that it consists of measuring the distance between a first point 18 of the vehicle and the overhead line, said distance having a value Vm, determining the distance between a second point 22 on the predefined virtual path 20 and the overhead line 40, said second point being the point on the predefined virtual path at which a reference point 19 should normally be located on the basis of at least one predetermined parameter linked to the movement of the vehicle, said distance having a value Vo, comparing the Vm and Vo values, said comparison giving a value Vc, and controlling the direction of the vehicle such that the value Vc tends toward a predetermined threshold value.
