Summary:The reaction device (2) contains passages and an exchange surface at least partially coated with an active material. Means of displacement allow the passages to be positioned so they are supplied cyclically with an oxidant gas, an inert gas and a reducing gas. There are means of supplying an oxidizing gas (8) and removing (9) the hot gas resulting from oxidation leaving the passages. There are means of supplying a reducing gas to the passages which have undergone oxidation and means of removing the gas resulting from reduction, essentially carbon dioxide and water, as it leaves the passages. There are means of supplying and removing an inert balancing gas through the passages. The inert gas is carbon dioxide and water vapor. The reaction device is driven in rotation around its longitudinal axis (3) and is in the form of a section of a cylinder. The ends of each passage open into the two parallel circular faces (5, 6) of the cylinder. The reaction device is a cylindrical monolith containing channels. Each means of supply and removal has openings (14) placed opposite the parallel circular faces of the reaction device so each opening opens on one angular section allowing circulation of the gas between the means of supply and the associated means of removal through the passages of the reaction device. In addition the device has seals (20, 22, 25) which are radial and circular joints placed between the means of supply and/or removal and the parallel faces of the reaction device. The reaction device is divided by radial dividers (7) extending parallel to the longitudinal axis and over the whole height of the reaction device. The seals are mounted on the edges of the radial dividers and circular joints are mounted around the circumference of the circular faces. The inert balancing gas is held at a pressure greater than that of the oxidizing and reducing gases. The reaction device is placed in a coaxial cylindrical envelope closed by two flat plates in which are cut openings for the means of supply and removal. An Independent claim is included a process for generating energy using the device described above in which the compressed oxidant gas, reducing gas and inert gases are introduced continuously into their respective means of supply and a hot gas, a gas which is essentially carbon dioxide and water and the inert gas are recovered and the carbon dioxide and water are separated.
