The implant, comprising a metal cup (2) and a plastic insert (5), incorporates an adapter (4) in the form of a metal shell (12) which is fixed in the cup and receives the insert, allowing it to move relative to the shell. The metal shell has an outer surface (14) with a conical portion (15) having a small angle of taper, and a collar (17) forming a rim. The conical portion (15) engages with a similar conical surface (9) inside the cup. The cup and shell also have conical portions (10, 16) with greater angles of taper, with the conical portion of the cup having holes (7) for fixings (6). L'implant cotyloïdien comprend un dispositif d'adaptation (4) constitué d'une coque métallique (12) qui vient se fixer dans un élément métallique (2, 19) afin de recevoir un insert (5) de manière que ce dernier puisse, d'une part pivoter librement à l'intérieur d'une cavité interne (13) de la coque, et d'autre part se déplacer en translation par rapport à ladite coque solidaire de l'élément métallique.
