Photographic element comprising a photosensitive Ag halide emulsion layer which is associated with a coupler containing a 1-aryl-3-arylpyrazol-5-one or 1-aryl-3-alkylpyrazol-5-one nucleus and which has the formula (I) X = aryl, alkyl, alkylamino or arylamino; Y1 = C or S; m = 1 when Y1 = C and m = 2 when Y1 = S; R = halogen or alkyl; o = 0-4 with the proviso that at least two substituents R may together form one or more supplementary rings; Z = (a) an aryl group Ar Q(n) or (b) an alkyl group; Q = n independently selected substituents bound to the ring Ar ; n = 0-5 with the proviso that at least two substituents Q may together form one or more supplementary rings; OAr4 = aryloxy group; P1 = p independently selected substituents bound to the aryloxy nucleus Ar4 with the proviso that P1 may not be a nitro group in the ortho position to the O atom bonding the aryloxy group to the 4-position of the pyrazolone; p = 0-5 with the proviso that at least two substituents P1 may together form one or more supplementary rings; X and one group R combined together may = one or more supplementary rings; L'invention concerne un élément photographique comprenant une couche d'émulsion aux halogénures d'argent photosensibles à laquelle est associé un coupleur comprenant un noyau 1-aryl-3-arylpyrazol-5-one ou 1-aryl-3-alkylpyrazol-5-one et représenté par la formule I : (CF DESSIN DANS BOPI) dans laquelle : X représente un groupe aryle, alkyle, alkylamino ou arylamino;Y peut représenter un atome de carbone ou de soufre; m est égal à 1 lorsque Y représente un atome de carbone et est égal à 2 lorsque Y représente un atome de soufre; R représente un halogène ou un groupe alkyle; et o est compris entre 0 et 4, à condition qu'au moins deux substituants R puissent se réunir pour former un ou plusieurs noyaux supplémentaires;Z représente soit (a) un groupe aryle représenté par Ar3 Q (n), où Q représente n substituants choisis séparément et liés au noyau Ar3 ; et n est compris entre 0 et 5, à condition qu'au moins deux substituants Q puissent se réunir pour former un ou plusieurs noyaux supplémentaires, soit (b) un groupe alkyle;OAr4 représente un groupe aryloxy; et P représente p substituants choisis séparément, liés au noyau aryloxy OAr4 , à condition que P ne puisse pas être un groupe nitro en position ortho par rapport à l'atome d'oxygène reliant le groupe aryloxy à la position 4 du noyau pyrazolone; et p est compris entre 0 et 5, à condition qu'au moins deux substituants P puissent se réunir pour former un ou plusieurs noyaux supplémentaires; à condition que le groupe X et un groupe R puissent se réunir pour former un noyau supplémentaire.
