Summary:The low temperature (150-300 degrees C) elimination of nitrogen oxides comprises a highly selective reduction to nitrogen and minimal production of nitrous oxide, by use of a catalyst containing a NU-86, NU-87 or EU-1 type zeolite. The catalyst comprises a refractory inorganic oxide which contains a zeolite NU-86, NU-87 or EU-1, a group VIB, VIIB, VIII or 1B transition metal and/or a group VIII noble metal. Independent claims are also included for the use of the catalyst in the catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides and for the preparation of the catalyst.
