Summary:System for charging batteries (10) of an electric vehicle (2). An earth wire (6) of the power supply cable (3) is used, linking the charging terminal (1) to the vehicle (2). A resonant circuit (12) which excites a central unit (16) is arranged in the vehicle (2), and sends its resonances back into the earth wire (6). The central unit (16) detects them and thus checks the presence of the vehicle (2) and the continuity of the earth wire (6). Applicable to electrically propelled vehicles.
