The present invention relates to an angle-of-rotation detector of the type comprising a first wheel (2) whose movement is used to measure the angle and direction of rotation. The invention is principally characterised in that the detector also comprises a second wheel (5) connected mechanically to the movement of the first wheel (2), its movement being an indication of the number of revolutions effected about an axis (18) by the first wheel (2) and/or of the direction of rotation. Application to power-assisted steering systems for motor vehicles, especially those with steerable rear wheels.
