Summary:Process for the preparation of indole by catalytic cyclisation of N-beta-hydroxyethylaniline in the presence of cadmium sulphate, characterised in that the catalyst contains at least one basic compound. This basic compound is generally a carbonate, oxide or hydroxide of an element of groups IA and IIA of the periodic classification, such as Li, Na, K, Cs, Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba. The presence of the basic compound increases the lifespan of the catalyst. Procédé de préparation de l'indole par cyclisation catalytique de la N-beta-hydroxyéthylamiline en présence de sulfate de cadmium caractérisé en ce que le catalyseur renferme au moins un composé basique. Ce composé basique est en général un carbonate, oxyde ou hydroxyde d'un élément des groupes IA et IIA de la classification périodique, tel que Li, Na, K, Cs, Mg, Ca, Sr ou Ba. La présence du composé basique augmente la durée de vie du catalyseur.
