The appts. has coolant conducted to and from the blade (11) through a heat exchanger (7) consisting of at least two intercommunicating coaxial tubes (8,9). The transformer (5) is combined with the outer tube (8) for transmission of the ultrasonic waves from a source (2) composed of an excitation coil (3) and a magnetostrictive element (4). For max. efficiency the transformer (5) is shaped as a hollow frustum of a cone with its broader end (6) in contact with the source (2), and its narrower end (10) fixed to the outer tube (8). This has a lengthwise slit for airtight insertion of the comb edge (12) of the blade (11).
