Device intended for the insulation of external walls of buildings. Insulation device comprising at least two substantially horizontal rows of insulating panels and at least two rails, each rail supporting a substantially horizontal row of panels. The rails 2 comprise a fixing element 4 designed for fixing the rail to the surface to be insulated, and a support element 3, installed permanently on the fixing element, intended to support several insulating panels, the two main faces of each insulating panel being flat, the lower horizontal edge of each insulating panel being worked or cut so as to match the geometry of the support element of the rail, and the three other edges of each panel being worked and/or cut so as to match the geometry of the edges of the adjacent insulating panels.
