Summary:A water reducible coating compsn. comprises (A) an organosilane-polyol having a hydroxyl no. of at least 70, comprising the reaction product of (1) hydrophilic polyol having hydroxy no. of at least 300; and (2) organosilane and/or hydrolysed and condensed organosilane and; (B) aminoplast resin, phenoplast resin and/or blocked polyisocyanate as curing agent. The compsn. may also contain an org. solvent, unreacted polyol, unreacted hydrolysed and condensed organosilane, and water. The sum of the components (A) and (B), unreacted polyol and unreacted hydrolysed and condensed organosilane is at least 60 wt.%. The compsn. on curing on a substrate, exhibits excellent short- and long term tape release props when used e.g. as protection over paper present in plywood, hardboard or particle board panels contg. a paper overlay.
