Summary: | A process for the production of aminoglycoside antibiotics using fused protoplasts derived from streptomyces. The cells are precultured in a medium containing sucrose, calcium and magnesium salts. Protoplasts are formed and then fused. The fused protoplasts are regenerate and antibiotic producing ability is screened for. The regenerate cells produced an antibiotic complex of modified composition or demonstrated increased or reduced antibiotic productivity compared to the fusion partners. |
