Summary: | Process for biological treatment of a liquid phase in which the liquid phase to be treated passes, flowing upwards, through a stationary immersed bed consisting of a material with open porosity of density lower than that of the liquid phase to be treated, the latter being brought into contact, as it passes through the stationary bed, with a biomass confined in the interstitial space of the bed. The reactor enabling the process to be carried out, equipped in its lower part with a pipe 6 for delivering the liquid phase to be treated and in its upper part with a pipe 12 for discharging the treated liquid phase, contains a stationary bed 2 of material with open porosity of density lower than that of the liquid phase to be treated and kept immersed by a physical retaining means 3.
