Summary:The control has a casing 6 divided into two chambers 4, 5 by a diaphragm 3. One chamber 4 communicates with the ambient atmosphere and accommodates a part of a rod linkage 8 extending between the diaphragm 3 and the timing angle setting mechanism 16. The other chamber 5 communicates via pipe 7 with the induction manifold of the engine and contains a compression spring 9. One end of the spring 9 bears against the diaphragm 3 while its other end is supported in a cup 11. The casing 6 and the cup 11 have respective co-operating sloping surfaces 15, 12 which are toothed for interengagement. The cup 11 has a central socket 13 which is externally accessible, via the pipe 7, by a tool so as to displace the surface 12 relative to the surface 15. The teeth are of varying length so that by depressing the cup 11 against the spring 9, angularly displacing the cup and releasing it to re-engage the teeth, the compression of the spring 9 is varied and the diaphragm 3 and the linkage 8 are displaced to adjust the timing angle of the mechanism 16.
