Summary:The power assisted vehicle steering has a steering column (10) with a shaft (11) connected to the steering wheel and a coaxial shaft connected to the steering linkage. The shafts have relative rotary play detected by a sensor mounted on the steering gearbox, to control the steering assist actuators. The detector is mounted onto the steering housing by a plastics sleeve (41) which has stops to retain it resiliently in the annular end faces of the detector housing and the steering housing. The stops snap-lock into the housing end faces.
