Summary:The skimmer (I) is equipped with a power driven suction pump to lift the oil into a disposal pipe. (I) has a horizontal dividing plate which is interposed between the water surface and the layer of oil. This enables the suction pump to lift only oil from above the plate while water is confined below the plate. (I) pref. comprises a central float adjustably linked to three surrounding floats by equally spaced radial arms. Adjustment of the arms regulates the depth of immersion of the dividing plate to suit the thickness of the layer of oil. Pref. several skimmers are linked to operate together and to deliver into a common, floating oil receiver. Used for clearing oil pollution from a water surface. The skimmer are light and easily transportable by air, rail, road or sea. Since oil only is lifted, the power used is less than with skimmers which lift a large proportion of water. The skimmer can be used in confined spaces, close inshore and in rough weather conditions with high winds and rolling waves.
