Marking and locating compsns. comprise >=1 fluorescent colourant, a surfactant and a particulate absorbant for fixing the liq. elements of the compsn. The compsns. are used to mark a zone in the sea and then exciting the zone with the aid of a UV source so that the position of the zone may be fixed. In the above the term sea is applicable to all aq. areas. Compsns. are easily dispersed and quickly form a coloured area whatever the weather conditions. The colourant is detected easily using simple appts. esp. at night or in poor visibility. La présente invention concerne de nouvelles compositions de marquage et de repérage en mer ainsi qu'un procédé utilisant lesdites compositions. Les compositions de marquage et de repérage en mer selon la présente invention du type comprenant au moins un colorant fluorescent et un agent tensio-actif sont notamment remarquables en ce qu'elles comprennent en outre un absorbant sous forme de particules fixant les éléments liquides desdites compositions. Le procédé permettant le repérage en mer est notamment remarquable en ce qu'il consiste à exciter ladite zone à l'aide d'une source ultra-violette naturelle ou artificielle, puis à repérer ladite zone ainsi excitée. Applications au repérage de naufragés ou objets tombés en mer, signalisation d'embarcations en détresse, étude des courants marins, reconnaissance d'une zone polluée et étude de sa dérive dans le temps, surveillance des baignades sur les plages.
