Summary: | Hyperfrequency or microwave heating chamber consists of an outer envelope of thermally insulating refractory material (e.g. sintered SiO2, cermet, zirconia) delimiting an interior volume the wall of which is made electrically conducting (e.f. by flame spraying a metal) and has a low thermal inertia. Used for sintering or fusion of ceramic prods. at temps of 1000-1500 degrees C. The chamber envelopes can withstand temps. of the order of those to which the ceramic prods. are being heated, so that the prods. can be placed near the inner wall without being cooled by the proximity of a cooled heat conductive wall as in prior art. The heat emitted by radiation of the prod. need not be lost to the chamber at the same rate as in prior art.
