Summary:Electroslag remelting plant for mfr. of exceptionally heavy metal ingot, using consumable electrodes and a chilled mould which is driven up and down. The mould has a wide upper zone (I) for the slag bath, and a lower zone (II) forming the actual mould. The mould base is formed by a chilled insert, which has a height larger than the height of lower zone (II). At the start of melting, the insert is partly located in zone (II), but the mould can be lowered so that top of zone (II) is below the top of the insert. Used for mfg. ingots with a wt. 150-200 tonnes. The length of the electron holder reels required is reduced by 50% cf prior plants, and power consumption is lower. L'invention concerne la fonderie. L'installation faisant l'objet de l'invention est caractérisée en ce que la saillie refroidie 15 prévue sur la plaque de fond refroidie 10 et s'engageant partiellement dans la cavité de la lingotière au début de la refusion a une hauteur << H >> supérieure à la hauteur << h >> de la partie moulante 16 de la paroi de la lingotière refroidie 9 et une section droite permettant la descente de la lingotière refroidie jusqu'à un niveau où ladite partie moulante de la paroi de la lingotière refroidie se trouve plus bas que la face supérieure de ladite saillie refroidie. L'invention permet notamment de réduire la hauteur, le poids et l'encombrement de l'installation.
