Summary:Mixt. comprises a monocarboxylic acid having multi-branched chain form. The monocarboxylic acid has formula: H(CHRCH2)nCR1R2COOH where R is (m)ethyl, octyl and n is 1-15. The acid content in the mixt. is 10-30 wt.% for the integer (n) =1, 15-30 wt.% for the integer (n) =2, 30-25 wt.% for the integer (n) =3, in a range of 25-15 wt.% for the integer (n) =4 and 20-5 wt.% for the integer (n) =5. The monocarboxylic acid is prepd. by reacting a carbocylic acid R1R'2CHCOOH with alpha-olefin having formula RCH=CH2 in the presence of a peroxide cpd. at 50-180 degrees C (where R2 is H or methyl). The mixture is used to produce a paint or varnish compsn.
