Functional fluorinated derivatives prepn. - by transformation of a (1)-hydrogen-perfluoroalkyl gp. under mild conditions

A fluorinated cpd. Y-CHF-(CH2)n-1X(1) (where X is F or an organic gp. Y is a functional organic gp. and n is an integer) is prepd. by reacting HCF2-(CF2)n-X'(II) (where X' is an opt. protected X gp.) with R2NM, (where M is alkali(ne-earth) metal and R is a hydrocarbon gp). The reaction tak...

Summary:A fluorinated cpd. The reaction takes place at -100 to +20 degrees C in a solvent which is a dialkyl ether, cyclic ether e.g. THF, polyethylene glycol ether, a hydrocarbon, or a mixt. of these different solvents. The reaction prod. is hydrolysed in acid medium giving R2N-CO-CHF(CF2)n-1X'. If necessary X' is de-protected and R2N-CO- is transformed to another functional gp. Y. The process allows the transformation of a 1H-perfluoroalkyl gp. under muld conditions, giving a large variety of fluorinated derivs. carrying functional gps. (I) are esp. useful for prodn. of fluorinated polymers used for protecting surfaces.
