Summary: | A device for determining the strength and direction of external magnetic fields uses a differential ferromagnetic probe. The device is of construction and may be used instead of more complex instruments such as Hall effect devices. The device contains a core (3), excitation coils (4, 4'), an operating coil (5), an excitation coil supply (6), and an operating coil recording circuit (7). The supply circuit (6) contains a thyristor (8) and capacitor (9), is powered from an external source, and supplies the excitation coil (4, 4'). The recording block (7) contains a thyristor (14) controlled by the operating coil (5). A compensation probe may be used whereby the operating and compensating working and excitation coils are connected in series. |
