Summary: | The tool has a cylindrical body (1) with an annular groove (2) containing deforming balls (3) or rollers which are movable and rotatable in the groove. The body has a cylindrical threaded shank (4) fixing the tool in a mandrel (5) mounted in a lathe tail spindle. The body and shank have an axial bore (7) which communicates with passages extending in an axially transverse plane of the tool and opening into the bottom of the groove. The passages extend tangentially w.r.t. the bottom of the groove and supply pressurised fluid to the groove from the axial bore and the mandrel. The fluid rotates the balls and move them in the groove so that the internal surface of revolution of a workpiece such as a cylinder or cylinder liner is finished by plastic deformation by the balls. |
