1-Butene prodn. by ethylene dimerisation - with titanium alcoholate-alkylaluminium catalysts
1-Butene is prepd. by dimerisation of ethylene in an org. solvent in the presence of a catalyst system comprising (a) a complex Ti alcoholate of formula (RO)3TiR'.AIR"2OR (where R is 2-4C alkyl; R' = R or H; R" is as defined for R) and a trialkylaluminium or (b) a Ti alcoholate o...

Summary: | 1-Butene is prepd. by dimerisation of ethylene in an org. solvent in the presence of a catalyst system comprising (a) a complex Ti alcoholate of formula (RO)3TiR'.AIR"2OR (where R is 2-4C alkyl; R' = R or H; R" is as defined for R) and a trialkylaluminium or (b) a Ti alcoholate of formula Ti(OR)4, a dialkylaluminium hydride and a modifier comprising dicyclopentadienyltitanium dichloride, O2, m-phenyl-enediamine or N-phenyl-beta-naphthylamine. 1-Butene is used in the prodn. of n-butanol, ethylene/butylene copolymers, isotactic polybutene, butene oligomers and butadiene. Compared with conventional ti alcoholate catalysts, system (a) increases the yield of 1-butene by ca. 25 wt. % and decreases the yield of by-prods. (higher olefins, polyethylene) to 1.7-5.3 wt. % and system (b) increases the yield of 1-butene by 10-20%. |
