Summary:1,162,397. Dehydrogenation catalysts. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. 8 Dec., 1966 [8 Dec., 1965; 7 June, 1966; 8 June, 1966], No. 55044/66. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C2] Dehydrogenation catalysts comprise from 0.1 to 2% by weight of platinum, from 0.05 to 1% by weight of iridium, from 0.5 to 3% by weight of alkali or alkaline earth metals, expressed as Na 2 O or CaO, and the complement as silica, the specific surface of this catalyst amounting to between 100 and 300 m2/g and its pore volume to between 0.7 and 1.1 cm3/g. The catalyst is prepared by impregnating the silica with a solution of compounds of platinum and irridium, the silica containing from 0.4 to 2% by weight of alkali or alkaline earth metals, expressed as Na 2 O or CaO, having a specific surface of 100 to 300 m2/g and a pore volume of 0.7 to 1.1 cm3/g, drying the impregnated silica, impregnating the dried silica with a solution of a compound of an alkali or alkaline earth metal, drying the resultant silica, and treating the last named dried silica with hydrogen.
