Date Jan. 4, 1996(3-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzyl)-7-methylene-1-vinyl-2,3,3a,4,7,7a-hexahydroinden-4-one of formula (I): (I) and 3-(3-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzyl)-4-hydroxy-7-methyl-1-vinylindan of formula (II): (II) as well as their stereoisomeric forms are disclosed. Also disclosed are a process for producing these compounds from the plant Ottelia alismoides and pharmaceutical compositions containing them. The novel compounds of formulas (I) and (II) have remarkable antitumor and antileukaemic properties.
