Summary:A method for coupling together a pusher tug 3 and a barge 1 which has a fork (opening) in the stern designed to arrest the hull of the pusher tug. The coupling is effected with a three-point-supported, fixed coupling by means of three axially displaceable coupling rods 37,12, one of which is placed at the prow of the pusher tug and forms a multistep gear coupling with a receiving member 35 which is located along the centre line of the vessel and is designed to receive the end of the centre line rod. The receiving member consists of cavities and is located at the very front of the opening in the stern of the barge. The two other coupling rods 12 are located at the sides of the pushed barge and these are designed to form a combined friction and multistep gear coupling 9 with receiving members 5 for the ends of the side coupling rods, which receiving members are in the form of a vertical notch and are located on the side of the fork of the barge. The receiving member has cavities which are arranged along the centre line of the base of the notch. The coupling is realized with the aid of sliding shoes 23, which are slid onto the outer end of the side coupling rods 12 so that these sliding shoes can be pressed into the notch and give rise to an immediate powerful contact between the front and rear sides of the sliding shoes and corresponding side walls of the notch. The pusher tug 3 and the barge 1 are thereby firmly coupled together such that excellent seaworthiness can be guaranteed even in rough oceanic waters.
