Summary:1486402 Cleaning aqueous effluents using inorganic adsorbents BERGWERKSVERBAND GmbH 3 March 1976 [5 March 1975] 08573/76 Addition to 1472529 Heading C1C Adsorption apparatus for removing organic substances from aqueous effluents, comprises a vessel having in its upper region an outlet for treated effluent and an inlet for inorganic adsorption medium, and at its lower end a downwardly tapered discharge funnel leading to means for removal of inorganic adsorption medium, and in which a hollow upwardly tapered effluent distribution body is mounted in the upper region of the discharge funnel and is provided with an effluent inlet, the upper surface of the said body being inclined at 40 degrees to 60 degrees to the horizontal and containing a plurality of outlet ports having a total area of 0À1 to 1À0% of the cross-sectional area of the vessel, the internal surface of the discharge funnel being inclined at 50 to 70 degrees to the horizontal, and the said body and funnel defining a gap 50 to 100 mm. wide surrounding the said body. The inorganic adsorbent passes downwards through the absorber and the effluent upwards. Suitable inorganic adsorbtion media include Keiselguhr, silica gel or Al 2 O 3 pelletized or granulated form.
