Summary:1,265,190. Solutions of potassium 2,4- dichlorophenoxypropionate. FABBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 18 Nov., 1969 [28 Nov., 1968], No. 56372/69. Heading C2C. The invention comprises aqueous solutions having a pH between 7 and 12 and containing at least 600 g. of solute per kg. of solution, at least 50% by weight of the solute being the potassium salt of α-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) propionic acid and the balance, if any, being the sodium salt of the same acid and the potassium and sodium salts of 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid. Methods of preparing these solutions are described, the essential feature of these methods being the avoidance of the addition of α-(2,4- dichlorophenoxy) propionic acid to concentrated potassium hydroxide, which leads to a three-component system. Examples are given. The solutions are useful as herbicides, optionally after dilution, and they may contain an emulsifier or dispersing agent to avoid the separation out of the calcium salts of α-(2,4- dichlorophenoxy) propionic acid if hard water is used for dilution.
