Esillä olevan keksinnön kohteena on uusi MMP-8-keskiosan aktivointituote. Keksinnön kohteena on myös tällaisen MMP-8-keskiosan aktivointituotteen tai aktivoituneiden MMP-8-fragmenttien ilmaiseminen kohteesta saadusta biologisesta näytteestä sekä sen käyttö aktivoituneen MMP-8:n epänormaaleihin tai kohonneisiin tasoihin liittyvien sairauksien diagnosointiin.
