Summary:A carbon-based additive for negative active materials includes carbon nanostructures free of a fiber substrate, carbon nanostructures fused to a fiber substrate or any combination thereof. In many cases, the carbon-based additive further includes carbon black. The additive is used to prepare electrode compositions for lead acid batteries. Batteries that include such electrode compositions are characterized by improved dynamic charge acceptance and lead utilization, typically at acceptable water loss levels. Some of the batteries described herein exhibit a negligible memory effect. Un aditivo a base de carbono para materiales activos negativos incluye nanoestructuras de carbono libres de un sustrato de fibra, nanoestructuras de carbono fusionadas a un sustrato de fibra o cualquier combinación de las mismas. En muchos casos, el aditivo a base de carbono incluye además negro de humo. El aditivo se utiliza para preparar composiciones de electrodos para baterías de plomo-ácido. Las baterías que incluyen dichas composiciones de electrodos se caracterizan por una mejor aceptación de la carga dinámica y uso del plomo, normalmente con niveles aceptables de pérdida de agua. Algunas de las baterías aquí descritas presentan un efecto memoria insignificante.
