Device for purifying wastewater using aquatic plants, consisting of a mesh (9) inside which the aquatic plants and a series of floating buoys (4) are secured, to which buoys the mesh (9) is to be attached, said buoys being filled with a fluid less dense than water and configured to enable the mesh (9) to support a weight of at least 5 kg/m 2 without sinking. The purification method is based on the use of said device, to which helophyte plants are attached, their system of stems and leaves emerging at the surface of the water surface being maintained in order to increase oxygen transfer from the rhizome system of the plants to the water.
