The invention comprises an operating method by means of which, through the application of a biological pretreatment involving mixing mature compost with the organic fraction of urban solid waste, or another solid waste that has similar physical/chemical properties, the speed of hydrolysis is accelerated and anaerobic biodegradability of the waste enhanced, since the degradation of a particulate soluble substrate is the restricting step in anaerobic digestion.
