Summary:The invention relates to a micro-organism carrier for use in fluid-bed wastewater treatment plants. The inventive carrier comprises a preferably-hollow cylindrical body (1) with at least one helical flange (2) disposed therearound, which favours the creation of a biofilm and which facilitates the flow of water through and around the carrier in order to promote contact and the decomposition of the contaminant elements by the biofilm. In addition, the helical flanges (2) minimise the surface exposed to contact, thereby preventing the biofilm from detaching upon coming into contact with another carrier.
