Summary:A gravimetric method for determining the iodine adsorption number of carbon black is disclosed. The concentration of an accurately weighed iodine solution is determined by titrating with a standardized titrant and determining the concentration of the iodine solution by the weight of the standardized titrant needed to reach the titration endpoint. An appropriate amount of accurately weighed iodine solution is mixed with an accurately weighed amount of carbon black, and the mixture is equilibrated. The concentration of the resulting supernatant is determined by determining the weight of the standardized titrant needed to reach the titration endpoint. The iodine adsorption number is then determined based on the gravimetrically determined concentrations of the solutions. Preferably, the method is semi-or fully automated, and an apparatus for accomplishing the same is disclosed. METODO Y APARATO PARA LA DETERMINACION GRAVIMETRICA DEL INDICE DE IODO DE NEGRO DE HUMO. SE DETERMINA LA CONCENTRACION DE UNA SOLUCION DE IODO PESADA CON PRECISION POR VALORACION CON UN VALORADOR NORMALIZADO Y DETERMINACION DE LA CONCENTRACION DE LA SOLUCION DE IODO POR EL PESO DE VALORADOR NORMALIZADO NECESARIO PARA ALCANZAR EL PUNTO FINAL DE VALORACION. SE MEZCLA UNA CANTIDAD ADECUADA DE SOLUCION DE IODO PESADA CON PRECISION CON UNA CANTIDAD TAMBIEN PESADA CON PRECISION DE NEGRO DE HUMO Y LA MEZCLA SE EQUILIBRADA. LA CONCENTRACION DE LA SOLUCION SOBRENADANTE RESULTANTES SE DETERMINA DETERMINANDO EL PESO DEL VALORADOR NORMALIZADO NECESARIO PARA ALCANZAR EL PUNTO FINAL DE VALORACION. EL INDICE DE ADSORCION DE IODO SE DETERMINA ENTONCES EN BASE A LAS CONCENTRACIONES DE LAS SOLUCIONES GRAVIMETRICAMENTE DETERMINADAS. CON PREFERENCIA, EL METODO ES SEMI O TOTALMENTE AUTOMATIZADO Y SE DESCRIBE TAMBIEN UN APARATO PARA LLEVAR A CABO EL MISMO.
